White Lake Township Looks at Building Sidewalk in Front of Senior Center

The sidewalk will provide a connection to the North Broadmoor neighborhood on Haymarket Street.

North Broadmoor neighborhood residents could soon get their wish of a brand new sidewalk along Union Lake Road, connecting Haymarket Street to the Dublin Senior Center and Vetter Park.

White Lake Township Board Members unanimously approved a cost study Tuesday night for the construction of the sidewalk connection.

The sidewalk connection will be approximately 220 feet long and 5 feet wide and would cost about $3,000 to $4,000, according to Planning Director Sean O'Neil. However, the township hopes to save money by soliciting bids for the sidewalk connection along with an additional sidewalk construction at the senior center planned for this spring.

The connection will be paid for using parks and recreation funds.

Keith McKenzie, president North Broadmoor Homeowners Association, said many homes surround Vetter Park, but the only way for kids to get there is to walk on the grass or in the street on Union Lake Road.

"It's a greatly needed connection, not only to our sub(division), but to the many subs behind us for our kids to get across," he said.

"I'm in very much support of it, being handicapped and in a wheelchair myself," Township Trustee Carol Burkard said. "If I lived over there, it would be nice for me to be able to go someplace."

Burkard said she had a concern that it was time to install security cameras in the area, since the fake camera was stolen from the building.

"There's a possibility for people doing some damage," she said. "That would be my recommendation to protect the property."
