Downtown Dearborn Salon to Reopen Under New Ownership

Fans of the former Salon West will see a mix of old and new in the salon, slated to open within a few weeks.

When Salon West Dearborn opens its doors in just a few weeks, it will be like the downtown salon has always been there—because, in a way, it has.

The former Salon West closed its doors in October 2011, but stylist Rosie Haidar was ready to pick right up where the beloved downtown salon left off.

"It was always a really busy, popular salon," said Haidar, who is reopening the business with fellow stylist Maha Nasser and Nasser's husband, local businessman Yaser Berry. "Clients would come here right after work and relax."

Haidar and Nasser plan to keep the same feel of the former salon, and hope to gain back some former customers and stylists, too.

"We're trying to ride the wave of the success of the past," said Haidar's husband Nick Cheetany, who is assisting the salon with marketing. "People were coming here for years and years ... so once we open up and become established, they'll find that comfort again."

The salon will carry Redken products and Redken's organic Pureology line. They'll offer full cut, color and hair treatment services for men, women and children; plus waxing, manicures and pedicures.

Returning customers will notice the addition of tanning beds and the deletion of spa services, which Haidar said they felt was unnecessary, given all the local spa competition.

Also a big change is the decor, which has been completely redone by Global Interiors and Design—including lush purple walls, chandeliers and updated hardwood flooring.

"We want it to be modern, upscale, but something that both young and old crowds can enjoy," Haidar said.

"We wanted bourgeois obnoxious," Nasser said with a smile, "but it ended up more subtle."

One thing customers will notice is the thought put into every last bit of the effort, helped by Nasser's 18 years of experience as a stylist and Haidar's three.

"We both have an idea of how a salon should be run and how employees should be treated," Nasser said.

And soon, they'll be ready to share their vision with the community.

Salon West Dearborn is located at 22085 Michigan Ave. in west downtown. Their grand opening is set for Dec. 14. Watch Dearborn Patch for updates on the salon's opening, and follow them on Facebook.

I'm saddened by the bitterness surrounding the opening of this salon. I walked in today and was blown away. I was greeted with grace and poise and walked away a happy satisfied customer. I will be returning to Salon West Dearborn. Best of luck ladies and don't sweat the small stuff. It's all just noise. Onward and upward.

Hi everyone, We have deleted a number of comments from this stream that we felt violated our terms of use- specifically, the parts about name calling (http://dearborn.patch.com/terms). More than anything, though, we'd like to remind you that Patch is not the place for personal attacks on individuals, nor for making unsubstantiated remarks. Please keep it civil, everyone! Thanks!

I believe by keeping the original name salon West. And changing what needed to be changed and keeping the things that did not need to be changed is only right. Why would you want to erase something that was amazing and unfortunately was just ran to the ground the name deserves a second chance! And I personally believe if Rosie Haidar has her hands in it, amazing things will come from the salon and I myself can't think of a better person to restore what it once was!
