Bonnie Brown and Jeff Long Win Huron Valley School Board Election
An incumbent and a newcomer garnered the most votes among the more than 8,000 ballots cast Tuesday.
Incumbent Bonnie Brown and newcomer Jeffrey Long topped the crowded field of challengers Tuesday in the race for a seat on Huron Valley School Board of Education.
With all 29 precincts reporting, Brown and Long garnered 22.6 percent and 19.7 percent of the vote, respectively. Vote tallies are unofficial until audited by Oakland County.
Robert Artinian, the other White Lake resident in the race, garnered 2.77 percent of the vote.

Overall, turnout was low with only 10 percent to 20 percent of registered voters casting a ballot in each precinct, according to Oakland County officials.
Ashley Amburgy, election specialist with the White Lake Township Clerk's Office, said Tuesday afternoon that turnout was very low.

Although polls opened at 7 a.m., some precincts in White Lake didn't get their first voter until 9:30 a.m. In White Lake, only registered voters in Precincts 2-11 could vote in this race.
Anne Seebaldt, who voted at 10:30 a.m. at her precinct in Highland Township, said she was voter No. 16. Kimberly Rocker of White Lake said she was voter No. 14 at precinct 11 at 2:45 p.m.
Brown and Long were two of nine candidates vying for the two open seats on the Huron Valley Board of Education. The other candidates were:

- Joe Ghislain, Milford
- Russ Krawczyk, Commerce
- Kevin Lawrence, Milford
- Karen Wallis, Highland
Brown and Long will serve five-year terms that will run until 2016. Trustees on the Board of Education are paid $30 per meeting attended.
When looking at votes cast in those precincts, Long came out on top with 436 votes, followed by Brown with 384 votes and Milford resident Kim E. Galbraith with 206.
