Bomb Threat Reported at Lakeland, Student Suspended

Threat on bathroom wall was investigated by district and the White Lake Police Department. Superintendent Jim Baker said the student responsible was found and suspended.

The following is a message to parents from Superintendent Jim Baker regarding an incident at Lakeland Thursday.

Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff and Community Members –

Late this afternoon a bomb threat was written on a bathroom wall at Lakeland High School. While the threat was very vague, it was taken seriously and an investigation was immediately started by our Administrative Team in conjunction with the White Lake Police Department. Through the use of video, a Lakeland High School student was identified as a suspect. Subsequently, the student confessed to writing the threat. He further stated that there was never any type of device and that he never intended to do any harm to the school, students or staff. The student has been suspended pending further investigation and will be disciplined up to and including expulsion from Huron Valley Schools. In addition to the school discipline, the student will also be held accountable by law enforcement.

Even though it has been a challenging week, all of our schools will be in session tomorrow. Student attendance will be a parent decision and absences will be excused. We believe that every Huron Valley school is safe and we hope that you choose to send your children to school tomorrow.
