Park Offers Orienteering and GPS Scavenger Hunt

Indian Springs Metropark's Environmental Discovery Center features a GPS Scavenger Hunt and Orienteering sessions at 10 a.m and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9 for fourth grade and up.

Learn about latitude and longitude to see how GPS works and then use a GPS unit to find practice geocaches hidden in the park! Open to children in fourth grade and up.

Also absorb the time-honored art of how to get around in the great outdoors using an orienteering compass and topographic map. The event starts with learning natural ways to get around, followed by learning how to read a map and compass. After that, participants will navigate an outdoor course using their new skills. They may bring their own compasses if desired, but orienteering compasses are provided.
