Huron Valley School Board Expects to Hire Superintendent by January

The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education met Thursday to discuss several items, including the time line for .

According to the schedule laid out by Michael Wilmot of Michigan Leadership Institute, the company hired to help the board find qualified candidates, the district is expected to hire someone to fill the superintendent vacancy by the end of January 2013. Until then, will continue to serve as the interim superintendent.

In the next few week, members of the institute will meet individually with members of the board to help draft a profile of the different qualities the district will seek in candidates. In September, that profile will be shared with stakeholders throughout the district, including parents, business owners and local government officials. Those stakeholders will be allowed to provide additional input.

Once the profiles are finalized, the position will be posted on job boards in October, and the district will take applications up until Thanksgiving. The board is schedule to start conducting interviews in December, with finalist being picked in mid-January. A superintendent will then be picked.

Board moves meeting days

In a break from tradition, the board of education voted unanimously to change their meeting days from Thursday to Monday for the new school year. The district will not meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month.

Board President Sean Carlson said he's received feedback from parents that Thursdays are generally busy days, and as a result, many parents can't attend board of education meetings.

To try and remedy this, Carlson suggested the board move their meetings from Thursdays to Mondays. Carlson said he looked at several school calendars and saw that Mondays were one of the least busy days.

The board agreed, and the motion to move the meetings to Mondays was approved unanimously.
