UPDATE: School Board Removes Demolition of Highland Middle School from Monday's Agenda
The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education was expected to approve bids for the demolition of Highland Middle School and Baker Elementary Monday. However, that item has been rescheduled for a special meeting Wednesday.
Update, 2:30 p.m.
The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education will no longer take up the razing of Highland Middle School and Baker Elementary School at Monday's meeting.
In an email to White Lake-Highland Patch, Kim Root, the director of communications and community relations for the district, said, "There will be a special board meeting on Wednesday, December 12 at Milford High School, as the Board felt this item merited its own meeting."

Tonight's meeting will simply be interviews of the first two candidates of the superintendent's job. The schedule for tonight is as follows:
- Robert Shaner Interview – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Paul DeAngelis Interview – 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A week after turning down Highland Township's offer to purchase the vacant school building, the Huron Valley School board will discuss plans to demolish the building at Monday's special meeting.
The meeting was initially scheduled so that the board could interview candidates for the the superintendent position - however, the demolition of the district's two vacant buildings was added late last week.
Interim Superintendent Jim Baker said the board is scheduled to discuss the item following the conclusion of the first interview - at 7:45 p.m. The meeting will be held at Milford High School in Highland.
According to a report in the Milford Times, the board received 17 bids for the demolition of Highland Middle School and Baker Elementary. The board is expected to approve a bid from Adamo Group to demolish Baker Elementary for $95,000, and a bid from ProDemo to raze Highland Middle for $199,000.
The Milford Times reported that the money to pay of the demolition of the buildings will come from the voter-approved building and site sinking fund.
The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education gave the Highland Township and Milford until Dec. 4 to decide if they wanted to purchase the two vacant buildings. The deadline had previously been March 2013, but recent state legislation that could take away the local control districts have over their vacant buildings was introduced in early November prompting the district to speed up the deadline.
