Johnston has been instrumental in helping to keep Huron Valley a strong district, Root said.

"HVS provides an excellent return on investment," Root said. "We are a low-funded school district, but our test scores are consistently above both state and county averages. (Johnston) has tackled a number of challenges while building strong community support for our schools

"It will be a significant undertaking to replace Jackie if that becomes necessary," Root said. "At the same time, I'm confident that Huron Valley could attract some very strong candidates."
