Huron Valley Superintendent Jackie Johnston Addresses District

Jackie Johnston is set to leave her position April 30, Interim Superintendent Jim Baker will start his position May 1.

The following is from the Huron Valley School District and Superintendent Jackie Johnston.

Dear Huron Valley Families:

As my tenure with HVS winds down, I want to take this opportunity to thank the parents, students, staff and community for the high level of support provided to our District. HVS has been my home for 16 years, so moving on is bittersweet. However, I leave knowing that the District is in good hands.

Students in HVS are fortunate to have parents who truly care about their success and a community that recognizes it takes all of us to ensure the health and welfare of our kids. Our students are educated by a staff that demonstrates its talents and creativity on a daily basis, and an administrative team that is passionate about the achievement of every child. I have been honored to work with such an outstanding team of educators. Likewise, I have been privileged to work with Board members, both current and former, who serve because they care about kids.

I leave knowing that, while HVS will continue to be the challenged by limited financial resources, we have guided this District with an eye toward cost consciousness and a strong return on the taxpayers’ investment. Our employees and our community have sacrificed in ways we could not have fully predicted when the global economic downturn began. I am proud of the fact that we implemented successful initiatives like GRAD 100, because all of our students need our support to complete high school. With GRAD 100 we increased the number of interventions and programs accessed by our students to help each of them leave us ready to advance their education or join the workforce. I am proud of the fine facilities we have built and maintain to a very high standard for the benefit of our entire community. I am proud of our strong reputation as a Triple A District—supporting the Arts, Athletics and Academics in an uncompromising fashion for the benefit of all students. We know that a wide range of offerings in all three areas helps keep kids engaged in school and contributes to their overall success.

Once again, it has been my privilege to serve as HVS superintendent for the past six years. I am certain that I will continue to hear about the great things happening in HVS as I assume my new position in L’Anse Creuse.

Sincerely,

Jackie Johnston, Superintendent
