Lakeland Update

A look at news from Lakeland High School.

Hello All! Scott Rolando here with this week's Lakeland Update. Here we go!

Homecoming

Tickets for the 2011 LHS Homecoming Dance are NOW on sale ONLINE and IN-SCHOOL for the price of $18/single and $34/couple. Tickets are on sale all this week. The last day to purchase tickets is this Friday at all three lunches. Get those tickets early this week and beat the end of the week rush! Our Lakeland Spirit Week is going on right now! Today we had a great turnout for PJ Day! Tuesday, is Alien Day (Wear Green!), Wednesday is Space Junk Day (Mismatching clothing), Thursday is Class Shirt Color War Day, and Friday is Lakeland Spirit Day. Class shirt distribution is going on early this week. Tuesday is for Sophomores and Freshmen to pick up their shirts at lunch. Senior and Junior shirts were distributed today at lunch. If your student did not get their shirt today they will be doing all classes on Wednesday. After that shirts will be delivered to the correct students. Don't forget the big football game this Friday as our Eagles take on the Vikings of Walled Lake Central at 7 p.m. At halftime of the football game we will announce our 2011 Homecoming King and Queen! Come on out for a great time! We are still accepting donations of water, cups (we need cups bad!), nut free snacks, and paper grocery bags for the Homecoming Dance. Anything is welcome! We also take all types of donations that can be used for student activities, holiday lights, etc. Email Mr. Scott Rolando at Rolandos@huronvalley.k12.mi.us for any possible donations! Receipts for your taxes are available upon request, for all donations to Lakeland are tax-deductible.

Bageris Children's Education Fund

A college fund has been established for the Bageris children by staff at Muir Middle School. Alex Bageris, a teacher at Muir, lost his wife in a tragic car accident, leaving three children behind. The account has been established with the Kensington Valley Credit Union and is called the Bageris Children's Education Fund (checks can be made out to this). Checks can be taken to the bank or mailed to Kensington Valley Credit Union, 290 N. John Street Highland, MI 48357.

Students between the ages of 16 and 21 are eligible to participate in the program. Knowledge of the language is not mandatory in most countries. This is a 4-6 week experience in which the student will stay with a host family, all of which are either Lions Club families or approved by the Lions Club. Financial assistance may be available to defray the costs of transportation. This is a time limited window of opportunity to apply.
