Let the Games Begin: Lakeland and Milford Wrap Up Preseason Workouts

With the school year about to start, teams in the Huron Valley Area have kicked off their fall seasons and begin competition this week.

"Let the games begin" is the word from the student athletes from and . Student athletes participating in football, volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boy tennis, boys soccer, girls golf and equestrian wrapped up preseason workouts this past week. The Eagles and Mavericks have been practicing for more than three weeks to prepare for the busy fall season. Eight fall varsity sports are offered at each Huron Valley Schools high school.

Practices began for football on Aug. 6, while all other teams began preseason workouts on Aug. 8. Coaches said they are optimistic about their seasons, as the student athletes have been training hard. All the teams' seasons have started as the first day of school approaches on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The Lakeland Eagles football team opened the season with a win on the road Friday, beating Northville 39-14. The Milford Mavericks won their home opener against Flushing 42-12.
