Man Approaches High School Student at Highland Bus Stop

Huron Valley District officials release statement following stranger danger alert in Highland.

The following is a letter sent to parents from the Huron Valley School District.

Dear Parents,

I want to share with you information about a recent incident that affects our school community. I am sending you this letter to give you the facts and to suggest ways to safeguard your children.

On Monday, January 9, 2012, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Milford High School student was approached at her bus stop at Rose Center Road and Horse Shoe Drive. A white male, approximately 45 years of age and driving a two-door, black Grand Am, asked the student to get in his car. When she refused, he followed her in his vehicle. The student ran and the man drove away. He was further identified as having no facial hair and wearing an orange baseball cap. A police report has been filed and a representative in the Holly school district has also been informed.

In general, ours is a safe community, but the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department reminds anyone, especially children, not to be out alone. In addition, please remind your child of the following safety tips:

  • Always walk with a buddy, never alone!
  • Don’t talk to strangers!
  • Get away from the situation!
  • Tell your parents, teachers, friends or the police immediately if approached!
