Viewfinder: Haven Hill Presentation at Lakewood

A photo gallery from the mini field trip.

Third grade students at Lakewood Elementary learned about Haven Hill Estate during a special presentation by the Friends of Highland Recreation Area.

The students got a close up look at special photographs of where Edsel and Eleanor Ford, along with their family, lived within Highland Recreation Area.

Dick Russell and Larry Falaradeu took the students on a historical trip to see where Henry Ford II, Benson Ford, Josephine Ford and William Clay Ford enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, swimming, tennis and tobogganing on Haven Hill.

The students are learned how Thomas Edison built one of the first rope toes for the toboggan run, and how Josephine enjoyed swimming and tennis on Haven Hill.

The students saw the progress the Friends have made in restoring the Gate House where Charles Lindbergh and Admiral Byrd drove through on their way to the Carriage House.
