UPDATE: New Development on Teachers Caught Having (Ahem) ‘Romantic Encounter’ in White Lake Classroom

The Huron Valley School District expects to put a wrap on its investigation by the end of the week about alleged "inappropriate behavior" by two teachers who have been suspended and placed on administrative leave.

Updated at 4:45 p.m.:

The Huron Valley Community School District said today that two teachers who allegedly engaged in inappropriate acts on school property are no longer with the district, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The behavior has been called a “romantic encounter.” Romantic relationships between teachers aren’t forbidden by school policy, but they're not encouraged, either.

“We don’t encourage that, but what people do outside of the workplace we can’t really regulate,” district spokeswoman Kim Root said “The issue is the inappropriate behavior at school.”

The two had been suspended after school officials learned Friday about their behavior, which the district did not specifically disclose,

The exact nature of the behavior isn’t important, district spokeswoman Kim Root said. The school district acted quickly when officials learned of the activity and launched an investigation.

“Those teachers have not been in school all week,” she said. “They were put on administrative leave.”

Substitute teachers are covering their classes and a hiring process has begun to replace them.

Patch previously reported:

Two White Lake Middle School teachers have been suspended and placed on administrative leave after a reported  “romantic encounter” in a vacant classroom.

School officials aren’t saying exactly what the teachers were doing, but Fox Detroit said it was “a romantic encounter” and “maybe some hanky-panky.”

"We placed the two teachers involved on administrative leave based on allegations of inappropriate behavior," said Kim Root, the director of communications and community relations for the Huron Valley School District.

Two sources reportedly told the TV station about the alleged romantic encounter between the man and woman, both full-time teachers at the middle school, located on Bogie Lake Road south of M59.

Root said Wednesday the school district had been investigating the matter for six days. Parents were notified by email Wednesday after the news station inquired about the alleged incidents.

The school district should wrap up this week, Root said.

"What I can tell you is that it is not complete but we are going to do a thorough investigation,” she told the TV station. “Those teachers are on administrative leave and are not in the building at this time."

School officials don’t think any criminal misconduct was involved and said the matter will be handled internally.
