Detroit Bike Week's Saturday Lineup

Detroit Bike Week includes special ceremonies for families and veterans to participate in such as a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday led by families of names on The Wall, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute/Cost of Freedom Exhibit, and followed by all Vietnam veterans in attendance.

Names on the wall of those families present will be read and the family of each will step forward and release a balloon in memory of their fallen one.

Sad But True, a poem will be read, and then the Vietnam veterans present will give those on the wall a final salute, followed by a benediction. Taps and the retrieval of colors take place at 9 p.m.

The Wall Exhibit, which includes a replica of the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C., is a huge draw to this event. It opens to the public from noon-10 p.m. This is the only scheduled visit of the exhibit to Michigan.

Again, families of names on the wall are invited to participate in special ceremonies.  For more information about how to participate contact Jill Starceswski at jill@detroitbikeweek.com or 586-212-3711.
