Girls JV Soccer Roundup

Game summaries from coach Robert Kroezen.

The following was submitted by Lakeland JV Soccer Coach Robert Kroezen.

On April 28 Lakeland faced off against Waterford Kettering and won 2-0. Kettering came on strong but with the help of our midfield and defense we kept the ball mostly in Kettering's half, Megan Jackson had a big trow into the defensive area were Nina Foote volleyed it in the goal to give Lakeland a 1-0 lead - we kept the lead going into halftime. In the second half we kept the pressure on Kettering when Mackenzie Purvis took a distance shot on goal. The goalie punched the ball back to were Foote was. She buried the ball into the the back of the net for a 2-0 end score giving Lakeland JV a 9-0 record.

On May 3 Lakeland took on Walled Lake Western. In the first eight minutes the Lakeland girls looked like they were asleep, but they woke up when Captain Shanna Gitre started taking control of the midfield bringing the ball to the left side of the field and passing it to Ashley Gurzick who took a left footed shot to give the Lakeland girls a 1-0 lead. With 5 minutes to go in the first half, Western had a free kick with a shot on goal and over Lakeland keeper Jessica Filipiak to even out the score 1-1 going into halftime. In the second half the Lakeland girls dominated the play with a lot of shots on goal. Fially, Lakeland's Amber Ragnoli took a shot on goal which was stopped by a defender, but the rebound was shot into the goal by Nina Foote for a 2-1 lead. Overall Lakeland is now 10-0.

Lakeland JV plays again on May 5 at Waterford Mott, and on May 6 at home versus Farmington.
