Lakeland Boys Ski Team Clinches KLAA Championship

Both the boys and girls ski teams qualified for regionals to be held Thursday at Alpine Valley.

Monday, Feb. 13, the Ski team participated in the KLAA Conference Championships at against 12 other schools. It was another "bluebird" day with excellent snow conditions.

The Lakeland boys and girls skied very strong. The girls team took fourth place overall. Top finishers for the Lakeland girls were Kelsey Griffin with a 1st place finish in GS and 3rd in slalom, Dana Wiberg came in 15th in GS and 19th in Slalom, and Mary Armstrong took 33rd in GS and 28th in Slalom.

The Boys skied phenomenally as a team. They took 1st place overall and have been named the 2012 KLAA Champions. Top skiers on the boys team were Taylor Janssen with a 1st place finish in GS and a 2nd in Slalom, Joe Metz who finished 3rd in GS and 5th in Slalom, Dan Smallegan who was 8th in GS and 9th in Slalom, and Brendon Clover who had a 12th place finish in GS and a 10th place finish in Slalom.

Both the boys and girls will be competing in the Regional Championship on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Alpine Valley. The top 3 teams will then go onto the State Final Meet on Feb. 27th at Nub's Nob.
