Lakeland Hockey Team Makes A Difference At Oxbow Elementary School

High school players carry on tradition by visiting classes to read to kindergarten and first-grade students.

Members of the Lakeland High School hockey team continued their tradition of making a difference for students at Oxbow Elementary School in White Lake by visiting classrooms Wednesday afternoon to read to kids.

This tradition has been going on for more than seven years.

Kindergarten and first-grade kids were amazed at the size of the players, and had fun asking them questions after each story. The players stressed how important it is to read every day, and how you must try your best in the classroom if you are going to participate in sports.

After the players finished reading, they joined kindergarteners during their physical education class. The kids looked like they had fun playing with the big hockey players during gym.

Head Coach Tim Ronayne said he is pleased to continue the tradition at Oxbow, and was excited to have the team have fun reading to the kids.
