Lakeland JV Blasts Royal Oak 48-14 During Pink Out Game

Lakeland is raising money for cancer by dressing in pink. Thursday, the JV football team took the field.

The Lakeland Junior Varsity football team blasted Royal Oak 48-14 Thursday night at the Pink Out game. Quarterback Zachary Humphrey tossed a touchdown pass to Nicholas Schaible to open the scoring at the 6:05 mark of the 1st period. After the swarming Eagle defense stopped Royal Oak on their first drive, Ryan Wonders scored on a 21-yard scamper to give Lakeland at 14-0 lead.

The Eagles never looked back as they stopped the Ravens on a 4th and goal at the 2-yard line midway through the second quarter. Sophomore running back Michael Kutzleb scored on a 38-yard sweep with just 38 seconds in the half.

In the second half, the Eagles broke the game open on a back to back touchdown runs by Andrew Bovay. Bovay scored from 45-yards out in the third quarter and from 54-yards on a sweep around left end. Michael Kutzleb closed out the scoring for the Eagles with a dazzling 72-yard punt return.

The Pink Out game was held to raise awareness for all forms of cancer. To highlight the special evening, a survivor walk was held at half time of both the freshman and junior varsity games lead by the JV cheerleaders. The cheerleaders donated $106.00 and assisted in raising a total of $846.42. All the funds will be donated to three different cancer organizations.
