Lakeland Skiers Prep for KLAA Championships with Strong Finishes

Eagles finish 3rd and 4th among 10 teams for divisional meet; Taylor Janssen finishes first in giant slalom.

The Lakeland boys and girls ski teams prepared for Monday’s KLAA Championships this Monday with strong performances Thursday at a 10-team divisional meet.

The Lakeland boys’ team finished in third, led by Taylor Janssen’s first place finish in the giant slalom (GS) and third in slalom. Teammate Joe Metz finished third in the GS. Brendon Clover, Dan Smallegan and Nick Lamp also had good showings for the Eagles. With that third-place finish Lakeland qualifies for the Southeastern Michigan Ski League (SEMSL) Championships February 22 at Pine Knob in Clarkston.

The Lakeland girls’ team finished in fourth place Thursday at divisionals. Kelsey Griffin was fourth in the slalom and ninth in the GS. Cheryl Craig finished sixth in the GS. With their strong efforts, both Griffin and Craig will compete individually this Monday. Strong results were also turned in by Dana Wiberg, Stephanie Holmes and Nicole Delaney.
