Middle Schoolers Test Their Mat Skills

A large crowd watched White Lake wrestlers take on a combined squad from Highland and Muir last week.

More than 60 wrestlers from White Lake and the Highland/Muir combined team competed in a dual meet last week before a big crowd at White Lake Middle School.  It was a high-spirited meet between two fine squads led by coaches Seth Taboh from White Lake and Alex Bageris from Highland/Muir.

Highland/Muir won 153-24, but the meet was a lot closer than the final score indicates.

“The kids wrestled some tough matches on Thursday," Taboh said. "They walked away with a great learning opportunity about being prepared for their matches and not assuming that they are better than anyone.”

Taboh said he was pleased with the efforts of Nolan Klapec, who pinned his opponent in 30 seconds, as well as Nolan Johnson, Trevor Loyer and William Jacobs.

Bageris was pleased that his team notched two wins for the week, beating James Geisler Middle School from the Walled Lake school district as well as White Lake.

“Even though we looked good in both dual meets, there are still a lot of good teams out there to compete against," he said. "Building to be a good team is what we want.”
