Quake on the Lake to Spotlight Made-in-Michigan Products

Annual event to focus on local products, fun.

The following article was submitted for publication to White Lake Patch by Bob Dustman.

Quake on the Lake, the annual inboard hydroplane races which will churn up the waters again this year on Pontiac Lake in Waterford/White Lake Townships July 20-22, will take on a distinctively Michigan flavor, literally and figuratively.

Race fans will be able to enjoy food and beverages made and sold right here in Michigan including an impressive selection of Michigan brewed beers--Badass Lager; Diabolical IPA from North Peak Brewing Company in Traverse City; Saugatuck Blonde produced by Saugatuck Brewing in Saugatuck; Michigan Lighthouse Amber from Cheboygan Brewing in Cheboygan and Black Eye IPA from Right Brain Brewing in Traverse City. All these beers are distributed locally by Powers Distributing of Orion, Michigan.

Towne Club soft drinks and Absopure Water, both headquartered in Detroit will be represented at Quake along with Great Lakes Chips from Traverse City, which are distributed locally by Intrastate Distributors of Detroit. Also on the menu are Leelenau Wines from Traverse City, and hot dogs and sausages made in Dearborn and sold by Nick’s Hot Dogs and the Red Wood Grill.

The food court will feature such delectable foods with a Michigan connection like Cinnamon Nuts & More and Guido’s Pizza, a Michigan-based pizza chain with eleven stores that uses Michigan suppliers such as R.W. Bakers from Muskegon for submarine sandwich buns, Turri’s Pasta from Warren and Nikki’s from Detroit for its Greek salad dressing. Guido’s distributor is Van Eerden of Cadillac. The Michigan focus also extends to the entertainment with Detroit’s own Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels taking the stage Friday night July with Shotgun Willie, a popular local group as the opening act. On Saturday night, Thirsty Perch, a rock/blues band from Grand Rapids will be the featured attraction with Shotgun Willie again kicking off the evening’s entertainment.

This year’s Quake will host the American Power Boat Association’s (APBA) 2012 World Championships, the first time this prestigious event has ever been held in the State of Michigan. Between eighty and one hundred of the world’s fastest inboard hydroplane racers are expected to compete this year. They will be taking aim at breaking some or all of the seventeen APBA World Records that have been set over the past twelve years on what is considered one of the fastest race courses in America.
