Sparks in the Park Set For June 30

A full slate of live entertainment is scheduled for the annual Highland event.

Fireworks will illuminate the skies over Highland Township on Saturday, June 30, when the Highland-White Lake Business Association hosts its annual Sparks in the Park. The event is held from 3-11 p.m. at Milford High School.

The festivities will kick off at 3 p.m. when the Great Campout gets underway. Huron Valley Recreation is once again hosting a night of camping under the stars on the grounds of Milford High School. The $35 fee includes a campsite, free access to the pools until 8:30 p.m., VIP parking, VIP seating at the fireworks,  a hot dog meal, smores and a campfire, in addition to breakfast on Sunday morning, provided by Rodnick Chiropractic. Registration is accepted at www.huronvalleyrec.com or by phone at 248-676-8390. The deadline to save your spot is Friday, June 22.

The popular Sparks Market will return this year, beginning at 4 p.m. Market organizer Kevin Lawrence said a wide array of vendors will be on site with variety of crafted items, handmade products and locally grown produce.

Live entertainment will start at 5 p.m. and will be emceed by Nancy McCauley and Linda Foran. “This year’s entertainment line-up is exceptional,” said entertainment coordinator Lynn O’Brien. The Sparks in the Park committee is delighted to showcase the following performing artists in order of appearance:

  • 5-5:30 p.m.- Kayla Nettles
  • 5:35-5:55 p.m. - Bulletproof Snow
  • 6-6:45 p.m. - Mean Mary
  • 6:50-7 p.m. - Got Talent Winners “Infinity Hour Unplugged” and “Perfect Fifth”
  • 7:15-8:15 p.m.- Mainstreet
  • 8:30-9:45 p.m. - Remedy

The National Anthem will be performed by Addy O’Brien, and for the second year, the Novi Concert Band will play patriotic music during the fireworks.

Free activities for the children will begin at 5 p.m. Food vendors will also be on site.

The fireworks will start at approximately 10 p.m. This year’s show is again produced by Michigan-based ACE Pyro.

Free parking is available at Milford High School, accessible by Watkins Boulevard and the service drive off Lone Tree Road, until the lots are full. Those who require handicapped parking should plan to arrive via the Watkins Boulevard entrance. Parking on Lone Tree Road is prohibited and this will be strictly enforced.

The Sparks in the Park Committee is still accepting donations for this year’s festival. “The local business community has once again been most generous with their donations to Sparks in the Park,” said HWLBA President Wendy Loncar. “However, this is a very costly event and we are still seeking funds. We encourage members of the community to help by visiting our website and making a donation.”
