Taste of Summer: Beer Soaked Brats

These plump, juicy brats are great on the BBQ during a hot day.

One thing I love about summer is grilling. The grill is a great way too cook up a nice meal on a hot day.

I'm not a fan of bratwurst, but a recipe for beer soaked brats piqued my interest. My friend Tera Deming had a similar recipe a few weeks ago and raved about how plump and delicious the brats were.

  • 3 12oz cans of beer (I recommend a pilsner)
  • 1 large onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. of butter
  • 5 brats (I used cheddar brats)

To start, combine the salt, pepper, garlic salt, butter, onions and beer in a large pot. Bring to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce the heat to low, so it simmers. Take the brats and poke with a fork on both sides, then place the brats into the beer. Let soak in the mixture for 15-20 minutes. After 15-20 minutes, remove the brats from the pan and transfer to the grill. Grill the brats until they become dark brown in color and crispy on the outside (5-8 minutes). Top with your favorite condiment, or the onions from the beer mixture. Enjoy!
