Business Association Honors Good Works

Highland-White Lake organization recognizes residents and companies for contributions to the community.

The annual community awards were presented Thursday to local businesses and residents, recognizing their contributions to White Lake and surrounding communities.

Tami Flowers, administrator at the , said this year it was difficult to narrow down the nominees to just four awards. "We had so many wonderful people in our area to choose from," she said.

Greg Morris was awarded Volunteer of the Year for his work through Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education.

"It's an honor to receive the award," a surprised Greg Morris said. "Anytime you receive an award, it's unexpected. I've done a lot of work with the Highland-White Lake Business Association over the last couple of years and it has been a fun ride."

's Scott Rolando was awarded the One Step Beyond award for his work in the community through the high school as student activities director.

"I'm very honored to receive this award," Rolando said.  "It's exciting to be recognized for the things that people do in this community. I try to teach that in my leadership class at Lakeland High School. Even if you don't get awards, you can see the value of working in your community and it pays off."

Other winners were Julie Hass and Peter Barnes of Veterinary Care Specialists in Highland, who were named Business People of the Year.

Szott Dodge, also of Highland, was awarded Business of the Year.
