Photos: White Lake/Highland Business Association Awards Luncheon

Business association presents special community awards at annual luncheon.

The White Lake/Highland Business Association (WLHBA) acknowledged the efforts of local businesses and volunteers at its annual Awards Luncheon Thursday afternoon. 

Dick Russell was named Volunteer of the Year. Russell was an engineer for over 40 years with General Motors. He’s an outstanding community resource for the Huron Valley Community and is always ready to help. He is the President of the Friends of Highland Recreation Area and is past President of the Huron Valley Optimist Club.

Greg Morris was recognized as the One Step Beyond recipient. Morris serves as the marketing and special events coordinator for Huron Valley Schools. His focus is with Huron Valley Recreation & Community Education projects which range from the Great Campout at Sparks in the Park, to the Got Talent Show and White Lake Farmers Market. He’s a member of the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Deb and Mike Maher were named Business People of the Year. The Maher’s have resided in Highland all their lives and are the current owners of the Highland Feed and Supply Company which has been in Highland for over 100 years. They work closely with the Highland Downtown Development Authority as well as the Highland Equestrian Conservancy.

LaFontaine Automotive was named Business of the Year on Thursday. The LaFontaine Automotive Group employs 250 people in two successful dealerships in Highland. This includes its Cadillac Buick GMC flagship dealership which is a Gold LEED-certified facility for its environmentally-friendly features. Their slogan of “The Family Deal” goes well beyond getting a great deal on a new car or pre-owned car. Their passion is to help the Huron Valley Community by supporting programs sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, WLHBA, Rotary, Optimists and Huron Valley Schools.
