White Lake Student Receives Scholarship From Local Conservancy

Kathryn Zarish received a $500 scholarship from the Highland Equestrian Conservancy. Zarish is planning to study law at Grand Valley State University in the fall.

The following is a press release from the Highland Equestrian Conservancy.

The Highland Equestrian Conservancy, a small local land conservation group and promoter of non-motorized trails in the Highland-Milford-White Lake-Rose Township area, is pleased to announce Kathryn Zarish of White Lake Township and graduate of Milford High School as the recipient of our $500 scholarship for a graduating student studying preservation of our natural resources, environmental sciences or equine interests.

Kathryn will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall and plans to concentrate her studies on a career in Law. She volunteers at Pretty Pony Pastures, a therapeutic riding program in Davisburg, where she teaches children with special needs to ride horses and be comfortable around the animals.

In her application, Kathryn wrote about her connection with animals and the important lessons her horse, Cruz, has taught her especially the skill of listening. She would like to use her experiences with horses and other animals to advocate for them.

“We were impressed with Kathryn’s accomplishments and volunteerism,” said Amanda Poxon, Secretary of the HEC. “We wish her much success in her studies at Grand Valley.”
