White Lake Police Warn of New 'Phishing' Scam

Police say they have had several reports recently of people posing as collection agency representatives to collect money from residents.

The following is a press release from the White Lake Police Department. White Lake Police Investigators have received several reports recently of individuals posing as a collection agency representative, the con artist will contact a victim by mail, email or telephone claiming the person owes a specific dollar amount to a particular company, often stating they have a delinquent loan. The objective is to convince victims to wire money to pay the "delinquent accounts" or to provide personal information for late use in illegal activity. The con artist will threaten to report "overdue bills" to credit bureaus, take some form of legal action or even drain money from victims' bank accounts without their consent. White Lake Police Swear In New Officers, Promote Officers

Police Chief Ed Harris introduced the new officers at Tuesday night's township board meeting.

It was a big night for the White Lake Police Department Tuesday as two new officers were sworn in, and two current officers were promoted. The new officers were hired to fill vacancies left by retirements. Police Chief Ed Harris swore in Jeff Sutton and Tom Sarasin. Officer Matthew Ivory was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and Sgt. Dan Keller was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

West Bloomfield Man Shot in Highland

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and White Lake police responded to the incident in Highland on May 13.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation were called to a home on the 3000 block of Lester in Highland for a reported shooting. According to the report, a man called dispatch and said that shots were fired at the home. The man told deputies that he had left the address before the shots were fired, but returned to find that his friend had been shot in the leg. When police arrived, the homeowner told police that the shots had been fired outside the home in the street. White Lake police were called in to assist at the scene. The man who was shot, a 21-year-old from West Bloomfield, told police that he and his friend were at the home for a party. According to the report, the men were met in the street by two other …

Man Threatened With Machete During Fight, Police Say

White Lake Police are looking for any information about a verbal fight that occurred May 6 at the BP gas station off M-59 near Pontiac Lake Road. According to a report, two men in a green Ford Taurus got into an altercation with a man and his female passenger after one of the men in the Taurus made a remark to the female. The report states that one of the men in the Taurus pulled a machete out of the back of the car and started to make threatening gestures towards the man in the other car with the knife. The man in the other car, the report states, pulled out a baseball bat. Then the second man in the Taurus also pulled out a baseball bat and the three continued to argue. Police Call Off Chase in White Lake Following Mail Theft

White Lake Police were called to a home on the 900 block of Round Lake Road May 3 at 11 a.m. following a reported mail theft. The homeowner told police that he witnessed two males in a white Chrysler minivan pull up to his mailbox and remove a envelope postmarked to DTE with a check in it, according to police. The report states that the two males saw the homeowner looking and took off. Shortly thereafter, police received a call about a white minivan driving recklessly down Elizabeth Lake Road near Williams Lake Road. The report states that a White Lake Police officer in the area found the vehicle and attempted to get it to pull over, however the driver did not comply and took off at a high rate of speed. Deputy Injured During Incident in Highland

Oakland County sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Highland on May 4 for a domestic disturbance. According to the report, a woman told deputies with the Highland Substation that her 27-year-old son was out of control and breaking items around the house. Deputies arrived at the home on the 700 block of Milford Road at 11 a.m. and saw the son run out of the back door and away from the home, the report states. A deputy chased after the man and a struggle ensued, according to the report. The deputy struck a wooden screen door during the fight, and received cuts to both arms. The suspect was not harmed. Woman Found Unresponsive in White Lake Home

The following information was supplied by White Lake Township police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

White Lake Police were called to a home on the 3000 block of Jackson Boulevard in White Lake April 15 after a woman told police she found her friend unconscious at the home. When police arrived on the scene, the report states, they found a 27-year-old at the home, unresponsive. She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a suspected heroin overdose, police said. According to the report, there was a young child at the home who was released into the custody of his father. Police noted in the report that drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.

Girl, 10, Goes Missing; Returned Home By Deputies

The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 10-year-old Highland girl was reported missing April 22 just after midnight. The girl's mother told Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies that she had gone missing from the family's home on the 2000 block of Honeywell Lake Road, and had never run away before. According to the report, the deputies searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating the girl. The aviation unit and K-9 were called out to try and find the girl. Both were unsuccessful. The report states that at 4 a.m. a man called the Sheriff's Highland Substation and said a 10-year-old had knocked on his door asking to call her mother.
