U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio Introduces First Resolution

Amendment would prohibit financial penalties for those who do not buy health care.

U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, R-Milford, on Wednesday introduced his first House Joint Resolution, H.J.Res 27, which would amend the Constitution of the United States to prevent Congress from using its taxing authority in order to force someone to engage in commerce, according to a news release from Bentivolio's office. Bentivolio represents Michigan's 11th Congressional District.  According to the release, the amendment would prohibit the federal government from inflicting financial penalties on individuals who decline to purchase health care in the marketplace. “Americans should not be penalized because they have made the economic decision to not purchase a product or service,” Bentivolio said in the news release. “Our country became an …

Cassis Pledges To Stay in 11th Congressional District Special Election

Despite defeat in the Aug. 7 primary and previous statements otherwise, Nancy Cassis will continue her bid for Thaddeus McCotter's seat on Sept. 5.

Mike Kowall To Run for Congress

Kowall says he's forming a committee, will seek Thaddeus McCotter's 11th Congressional seat.

The Oakland Press is reporting that state Senator Mike Kowall from Whilte Lake will be running for Congress in 2012. According to the report, Kowall, a Republican, is forming a committee and plans to run for the seat vacated by Thaddeus McCotter's (R-Livonia) presidential run. Kowall just recently won his state Senate seat in November, vacating his former position as White Lake Township Supervisor. His election win prompted controversy as the township board appointed a new supervisor, Greg Baroni, after weeks of debate. The state Senate term is a 4-year term. According to the Oakland Press article, Kowall won't have to give up his seat in order to run and he said he plans to run the campaign and continue with all of his state Senate duties…
