During Tuesday night's regular township board meeting, Planning Director Sean O'Neil updated the board on the progress of the new White Lake retailers.
According to White Lake Township Planning Director Sean O'Neil, Bed, Bath & Beyond has told the township they expect to open on June 19. JoAnn Fabric is targeting an opening date of July 27, with an official grand opening Aug. 9. The news was part of an update from O'Neil during the township board of trustees meeting Tuesday night. During Tuesday's meeting the township board voted to move ahead to a second reading on three township ordinances that Supervisor Greg Baroni said the township had had on the table since 2005. "They were originally proposed to the board years ago and have been sitting in limbo," Baroni said. "We are trying now to clean these up and get rid of all the extra baggage." Construction continues on the new retailer set to open in White Lake in June.
The grand opening of Bed, Bath & Beyond and JoAnn Fabric is inching closer, and the construction of the retail space off M-59 near Fisk Road is chugging along. Over the weekend the storefront signs for Bed, Bath & Beyond were installed. There is no word yet on when the JoAnn Fabric sign will go up, but both stores are still expected to open in June. Developers are telling the township to expect a June opening, not an early spring opening as initially planned.
Progress is being made at the former Farmer Jack site off M-59 near Fisk Road. Construction began last month, to transform the space into two new retailers for White Lake - a Bed Bath & Beyond, and a JoAnn Fabrics. Initially, when the news was announced in July 2011, the stores officials were hoping for an early spring opening for this year. That has since changed and Township Planning Director Sean O'Neil said the developers are now eyeing an early June opening, "Both stores are working within the same time frame for construction right now, but it's unclear if they will open on the same day," he said.
