Patrick Thompson of Hartland has plans to open new Highland deli restaurant by mid- April.

With a menu selection that offers an eclectic choice of sandwich options, Down the Street Deli has plans to open mid-April in the former Zaydee's Coffee House location at 2330 S Milford Rd. in Highland. Combining items such as raspberries and ham or turkey and strawberries, owner Patrick Thompson of Hartland says he doesn’t know how to cook, but he can make a sandwich. “I've never tried to cook," he said. "But people have had some of my sandwiches before and they always told me I would have open a store,” he said. On March 22, the Bogie Lake Greenhouse will host a fundraiser to help support the elderly of Oakland County for the second year in a row.

For the second year in a row, Bogie Lake Greenhouse will be donating the use of their retail space and helping to host the Faith in Action Wild Winter Strolling Appetizer Benefit. The event takes place on Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with all proceeds going to help support the non-profit group, Faith in Action, designed to assist the local elderly population in Oakland County. “It matches up people who need assistance- like doing laundry or who just want to be read to or want a visitor,” said Patty Watkins, co-owner of Bogie Lake Greenhouse. New Business Offers Healthy and Helpful Service

Veggie Pails will deliver fresh fruit and vegetables to their customers doorstop.

Healthy cooking is sometimes difficult for some people and finding the fresh ingredients to make those meals is sometimes even harder, especially during Michigan winters. Two Highland women are hoping to help change that problem with a new business that delivers pails full of fresh fruit and vegetables to your doorstep. Started last October by Nicole Converse and Melissa Tabalno, Veggie Pails was created to bring “convenience and variety” to people’s homes on a weekly basis by offering three different sized pails filled with fresh ingredients, according to Tabalno.  Originally the idea began with ingredients from local farmer’s markets, but during the winter months, the two women have been bringing in produce from out of state, which has …

Epic Hair Studio and Spa moved into their new location at 9135 Highland Road last July.

Last summer, Epic Hair Studio and Spa moved into their new space at 9135 Highland Rd., adding new services, stylists and spa options, including Reiki, a stress reduction practice that promotes healing.  While hiring more staff and including more services, David also says the move gave her the opportunity to decorate her new space with a new relaxing look and feel. “This one is all Earth tones, very feng shui,” she said. Although the look, location and services have changed, the name of the salon remains the same. David says she chose the name Epic ten years ago after reading a …
