Livonia Congressman says his priorities are to find a job and assist the state investigation into his 2012 petition filing.
Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter, representing Michigan's 11th District, resigned his office on Friday, citing a "nightmarish month and a half" that included a failure to qualify for the GOP primary ballot in August. In statement Friday, McCotter said, "After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family. As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave." Last month, McCotter announced plans to mount a write-in campaign after his campaign failed to turn in the requisite 1,000 petitions needed to get on the GOP primary ballot. Kowall says he's forming a committee, will seek Thaddeus McCotter's 11th Congressional seat.
The Oakland Press is reporting that state Senator Mike Kowall from Whilte Lake will be running for Congress in 2012. According to the report, Kowall, a Republican, is forming a committee and plans to run for the seat vacated by Thaddeus McCotter's (R-Livonia) presidential run. Kowall just recently won his state Senate seat in November, vacating his former position as White Lake Township Supervisor. His election win prompted controversy as the township board appointed a new supervisor, Greg Baroni, after weeks of debate. The state Senate term is a 4-year term. According to the Oakland Press article, Kowall won't have to give up his seat in order to run and he said he plans to run the campaign and continue with all of his state Senate duties…

The Livonia congressman announced his presidential campaign and played guitar at the Whitmore Lake festival Saturday.
U.S. Rep Thaddeus McCotter (R-Livonia) made his message loud and clear Saturday when he announced he was seeking a bid for the White House. The congressman announced before a crowd of a few hundred people Saturday that he is in the race for president of the United States — then brought out his American flag-themed guitar to play some bluesy rock music at the Freedom Festival at Whitmore Lake, sponsored by conservative talk radio station WAAM-AM (1600). McCotter represents Michigan's 11th congressional district, which includes Canton, Garden City, Livonia, Milford, Novi, Northville, Plymouth, Redford, South Lyon, Westland and White Lake. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that both party's have their share of losers. I have never been a fan of party lines one way or the other and I crisscross them regulary as I always look at the person and what they stand for not what party they belong to.   more ›
