Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and White Lake police responded to the incident in Highland on May 13.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation were called to a home on the 3000 block of Lester in Highland for a reported shooting. According to the report, a man called dispatch and said that shots were fired at the home. The man told deputies that he had left the address before the shots were fired, but returned to find that his friend had been shot in the leg. When police arrived, the homeowner told police that the shots had been fired outside the home in the street. White Lake police were called in to assist at the scene. Oakland County sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Highland on May 4 for a domestic disturbance. According to the report, a woman told deputies with the Highland Substation that her 27-year-old son was out of control and breaking items around the house. Deputies arrived at the home on the 700 block of Milford Road at 11 a.m. and saw the son run out of the back door and away from the home, the report states. A deputy chased after the man and a struggle ensued, according to the report. The deputy struck a wooden screen door during the fight, and received cuts to both arms. The suspect was not harmed. Brandon Alexander Markes, 16, was arraigned Thursday in 52-1 District Court on one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of assault by strangulation, one count of criminal sexual conduct first degree and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. Markes' bond was set at $1.2 million cash and he remains in custody at Children's Village. He's scheduled to be back in court April 24. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Markes is accused of raping a 15-year-old Highland girl at knife point. The report filed with the department states that the girl's mother called 911 to report the rape. An 8-month-old was found unresponsive in Highland on March 28.
Police do not suspect foul play in the death of an 8-month old baby in Highland Township, according to the Observer & Eccentric. As Patch previoulsy reported, deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation were called to a home in Highland Township after the baby was found not breathing in his crib at 9:40 a.m. on March 28. According to the sheriff's report, the baby was transferred to Huron Valley Hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead. OCSO Det. Jim Bowie told the Observer & Eccentric that the death does not appear suspicious, but they are waiting on an autopsy report before closing the case.

An 8-month-old was found unresponsive Thursday morning in Highland.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation were called to a home in Highland Township after an 8-month-old was found not breathing Thursday at 9:40 a.m. According to the report, the baby was transferred to Huron Valley Hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead. The report states that the Medical Examiner’s office was contacted and will be conducting an autopsy. There is no other information being released at this time. The incident remains under investigation.

Ross Austin Dimercurio, 18, of Highland and Devin Bradley Newell, 18, of Milford were arraigned Friday on a total of 20 felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from larcenies in both Highland and White Lake. Dimercurio has 11 charges ranging from larceny of a firearm, to felong larceny from vehicle. Newell has nine charges including possession of a controlled substance and felony breaking and entering of a vehicle with intent. Each was given a $50,000 cash bond and both remain in Oakland County Jail. The pair were arrested by Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies in Highland last week after an investigation led deputies to the suspects homes. Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies with the Highland Substation were patrolling the lots at local dealerships throughout the township March 5 when they found something interesting. According to the report, one deputy found full sets of keys sitting in the doors of at least seven vehicles. The report states that the deputy contacted the dealership to let them know that the keys were with the vehicles, the owner came to the lot, removed the keys and told police it was an oversight. "We've been going around the lots because we've had a rash of tires and rims being taken from cars at dealerships," Det. Jim Bowie. "Luckily our deputy was alert and saw this before anything bad could happen."

An 18-year-old from Highland and an 18-year-old from Milford were arrested Wednesday for their roles in 11 larcenies from autos in the White Lake-Highland area. Detective Jim Bowie with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation said the pair were arrested in the parking lot of a local pawn shop following an investigation into a series of car break-ins in the area. The larcenies are connected to the ones reported in White Lake March 4 and March 6. Bowie said deputies received a tip from a local business employee who called deputies after two men came to the business and threw out a stack of CD's and a woman's purse. Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation responded to an alarm just after midnight, Feb. 24, at a local party store. According to the report, when police arrived the clerk at the store on the 1000 block of Milford Road told police a person entered the store and grabbed a number of lottery tickets. The suspect then ran from the store. A K-9 unit was called in to track the suspect, and tracked the persons trail for 45 minutes before losing the track, the report states. Evidence was collected at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
