On Friday, the JV coach, Michael Leitheim, recorded his 100th win as that level with the Lakeland program. The Lady Eagles defeated Walled Lake Northern, 34-22. Leitheim is in his 8th year as the JV coach. He also is a 1997 graduate of Lakeland. (Source: Mike Head)

The following is from Lori Sokoll. On Jan. 5 the Eagles hosted their annual Lakeland Invitational Tournament. First year head coach, James Tippen, shook things up a bit by entering two teams, thus allowing every single Eagle to compete. The battles were tough, the competitors strong and the emotions intense. In the end Lakeland placed 8th out of 14 teams and sent four guys to the podium. Placers that day include sophomores Dominic Paterra at 5th, Andy Bovey at 3rd and Jake Sokoll at 5th. The brightest light of the day shone as Tanner Graham secured first place in the championship match held under the spotlight. The 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.
The following is a release from Lakeland High School. The Lakeland High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the details and inductees for the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year’s event will be held on Friday, February 15th in the front entrance Atrium at Lakeland, beginning at 5:00pm with a welcome reception that includes beverages and desserts. The formal ceremony begins at 5:45pm as current Athletic Director Greg Michaels leads off a series of guest speakers. Afterwards, the inductees and their families are invited to attend the Lakeland Boys Varsity Basketball game. The following was written by Lori Sokoll. This past week Lakeland traveled to cross-town rival Milford for a Quad-Meet. The Mustangs won that contest but Lakeland came out on top against Pickney the same day. On Friday, December 21 every high school in Oakland County began competing in the two day Oakland County Championship Tournament. This is a grueling battle and at the end of day one, the Eagles had four wrestlers qualify to return on Saturday. Once again, senior captain Tanner Graham led the way as three sophomores followed him; Dominic Paterra at 112lbs, Andy Bovay at 171lbs and Jake Sokoll at 285lbs. The Lakeland Eagles Wrestling Team along with other teams from across the State, traveled to Hemlock, a small town West of Saginaw last Saturday to compete in the Hemlock Invitational Wrestling Tournament. The entire team continues to improve steadily, and marked this week by having 5 Lakeland wrestlers advancing to the championship round. Underclassmen turned in strong performances with Donovan Carter (Jr.) finishing 2nd at 189lbs and Andy Bovay (So.) earning 6th place honors at 171lbs. The Senior Captains of Lakeland's squad continue to lead by example seeing all 3 earn medals. The following was submitted to White Lake-Highland Patch by Lori Sokoll. On Saturday, Dec. 8 the Lakeland varsity wrestlers kicked off their season with a trip to Northville High School to compete in the Todd Schoenheide Challenge. The team went 2-3 for the day with several matches being decided in the final seconds. Senior Captain Tanner Graham led his team by going 5-0 for the day against some tough competition while sophomore Dominic Paterra showed what wrestlers are made of as he fought through the pain of severely bruised ribs to end the day at 4-1. Former LHS athlete Garret Zuk in the news: The MHSAA has nominated Garret Zuk for the National Federation "Spirit of Sport Award' based on his great act of sportsmanship in track & field last spring as written about by Geoff Kimmerly in his "Second Half" portion of the MHSAA Web. The NF Award criteria are stated as follows: The NFHS has developed its "National High School Spirit of Sport Award," which will be conferred to eight section winners as well as one national winner.
