The Lady Eagles score three runs in the bottom of the 7th for the heart stopping win.
The Lakeland softball team won a 5-4 thriller over Sterling Heights Stevenson, Tuesday, to advance to the final four in Battle Creek. The lady Eagles were down 4-2 going into the bottom of the 7th in the quarterfinal game in Madison Heights. With the scored tied at 2-2 heading into the top of the 7th inning, Sterling Heights Stevenson scored two runs after two walks, a bunt and a Lakeland throwing error. They seized the momentum as Lakeland came to bat facing elimination. As the girls came into the dugout in the bottom of the 7th, Coach Alsup said, “We’ve been down before. The Lakeland softball team moves ahead in post season play after clinching a district championship.
The Lakeland lady Eagles blanked Milford 7-0 to win the district softball championship Saturday afternoon. Pitchers Selena Hicks and Anika Wiesinger combined on a one hitter for the Eagles. Karissa Gawronski banged out three hits for the Eagles while Madison Burgess and Kelly Merkle had two hits. Merkle had two RBI's for Lakeland. Hicks had a no hitter until the sixth inning when Milford pitcher Rachel Morrin smacked a single up the middle. The Eagle defense was airtight throughout the game. With the win, Lakeland celebrates its eight district title in the last nine years. On the road to another District Championship, the Lakeland softball team notched a win against Fenton.
The Lakeland softball team ousted Fenton 3-1 in a thrilling district game Saturday. It was a pitchers duel between Fenton’s Sammi Cowger and Lakeland’s Selena Hicks through the first 5 innings. Fenton got on the scoreboard in the 5th as Brooklyn Sondgeroth scored on a Lakeland throwing error. The Eagles came back in the top of the 6th as Sierra Burke lined a single to left. She stole second base and went to third after a strikeout when the catcher dropped the ball. Burke scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1. In the top of the 7th Burke singled to right field. Adding another championship to the season, Lakeland heads into the district tournament with a 31-5 record.
The Lakeland softball team won the KLAA Association Championship with a convincing 12-4 wins over Plymouth on Senior Day Wednesday. The Eagles were down 4-1 after 2 innings, but stormed back in the 4th inning by scoring seven runs highlighted by Sierra Burke’s three run homer. Burke’s towering home run over the center-field fence put the Eagles up to stay. The Eagles pounded out 14 hits to win their second championship this week. Pitcher Selena Hicks lead the hitting barrage by going 4-4 with two RBI singles. Hicks shut down the Wildcats as she fired a three hitter to raise her record to 11-2. In the lead up to league finals, Lakeland adds two more wins to their record.
The Lakeland softball team swept Milford Thursday afternoon in a make-up doubleheader at Milford. Lakeland, the KLAA north division champions, won the first game 7-1 as Selena Hicks struck out 11 on her way to her eighth win of the season. Kelly Merkle led the hitting parade for the Eagles with two RBI singles. Lakeland pounded out 13 hits in the first game. In the nightcap, the Eagles won 7-3 behind the pitching of Anika Wiesinger. With the doubleheader sweep, the Eagles raised their record to 26-4 heading into the Eagle Invitational tournament on Saturday at Lakeland. The Eagles will play for the KLAA Conference Championship on Monday at 4 p.m. against Hartland at home.

Hartland's softball team upset Lakeland's Monday, winning the game 1-0.
For the second time in two seasons, Hartland upset Lakeland in a 1-0 win, handing the Eagles one of their first losses of the season. Both teams are strong and will likely see each other in the postseason.

The Lakeland girls softball team fought off the rain, and added another win to their record.
The Lady Eagles softball team dropped Waterford Mott 7-3 Friday afternoon. Lakeland jumped to a quick lead in game one of a scheduled doubleheader led by the pitching of Anika Wiesinger, who struck out 11, and the hitting of Jessica McNabb, who went 2-4. After taking a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, the game was delayed by rain for 45 minutes. Wiesinger finished off the Corsairs after the delay to lead the Eagles to their fourth win of the young season. Lakeland banged out 11 hits in the victory to up their record to 2-0 in the division and 4-1 overall. The Eagles lead 11-1 in game two when the game was called due to rain after 4 innings. Lakeland girls soccer won a hard fought contest against South Lyon last Thursday by the score of 2-1. South Lyon began the scoring early in the first half when number 18 kicked in a goal following a corner kick. Lakeland Goalie Lauren Reiter and the Lakeland defense lead by seniors Alex Imhoff and Mary Jacobs tightened down for the rest of the game. Lakeland scored their first goal early in the second half when Amanda Lock scored off of a ball flipped to her by Amanda Allen following a corner kick from Morgen Kroezen.
