The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans.
There's no doubt that Lakeland and Milford students know how to support their sports teams. But, does White Lake or Highland have the best fan section around? Now you've got a chance to prove it. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. To enter, follow these rules: The MHSAA Student Advisory Council will choose five finalists. MHSAA officials will visit each school on a Friday game night to see the fan section in person. The winner will be announced on Feb. 22 and will be invited to the Class B Boys Basketball Semifinals at the Breslin Center on March 22 to be recognized and receive a championship banner. "…

The Lakeland boys cross country team sent two runners to the MHSAA state finals Saturday.
Lakeland's Blake McComas and Grayson Thomas represented the high school Saturday at the MHSAA state cross country finals. All-State runner McComas finished in 30th place with a time of 15:45. Thomas finished in 82nd place with a time of 16:21.

Visiting Milford shut down early by stingy Plymouth.
When the Plymouth Wildcats played host to the visiting Milford Mavericks on Thursday, a 45-0 rout wasn't quite what the home team or its coach had expected. "I've got the utmost respect for coach (Pat) Fox," Plymouth coach Mike Sawchuck said of his Milford counterpart. "The kids just went out there and played hard." Plymouth struck early, when senior quarterback Jamarl Eiland found senior Jared Davis on a five-yard touchdown pass following a 68-yard punt return by senior Matt Janke with 9:32 remaining in the first quarter. The Wildcats wouldn't look back, building such a wide early lead that the game clock ran through most of the game's second half, as is the case in games with lopsided leads. Football teams across Michigan, including those from Lakeland and Milford, began practice last week while getting used to several new rules from the MHSAA.
The 2012-13 fall sports season officially began this week, when approximately 110,000 student-athletes in Michigan begin practice in eight sports regulated by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). Practice began for Michgan's football players last Monday, followed by all other fall sports — from cross country to boys tennis — on Wednesday. Schools must have 12 days of preseason practice at all levels before their first game. For the Lakeland Eagles, the varsity team plays their first game of the season away Aug. 24 against Northville High School. Lakeland's Brendon Clover and Garret Zuk were named two of 32 winners by the Michigan High School Athletics Association.
The following is a press release from the Michigan High School Athletics Association. Brendon Clover and Garret Zuk, both of White Lake Lakeland High School, were honored as recipients of Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Awards at the 2012 MHSAA Boys Basketball Finals at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing on March 24. Clover and Zuk each will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Farm Bureau Insurance to be used at the institution of higher learning they attend this fall. Farm Bureau Insurance awarded 32 scholarships, proportionately by school classification to students with a 3.50 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average who have previously lettered in at least one sport in which postseason …

Lakeland's Brendon Clover and Garret Zuk were named two of 32 winners by the Michigan High School Athletics Association.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced the Class A winners of their scholarship-athlete awards Tuesday and Lakeland's two finalists, Brendon Clover and Garret Zuk were amongst the 32 winners. It's an honor Lakeland Student Activities Director Scott Rolando said the district is proud of. In his latest Lakeland update Rolando wrote, "It is very rare that a school has two students nominated, and even more rare that a school has two winners. Congrats to Garret and Brendon from all of us here at Lakeland High School." Both Zuk and Clover will receive a $1,000 college scholarship from Farm Bureau Insurance during a halftime ceremony at the Class C Boys Basketball Final game March 24 at the Breslin Student Events Center …
