Students can now learn to drive and support the school district at the same time.
Huron Valley Schools have announced that they are now partnering with Courtesy Driving School, where part of the student drivers' tuition will be given back to the school district. "Please consider supporting and signing up for classes with Courtesy Driving School as you can see that they are providing a high quality driver education program to our students while financially aiding our District," states an email from the school district listserv. According to the email, Courtesy Driving School is one of the oldest and most reliable driving schools in the state of Michigan. Kids involved with the video told a local radio host their parents will no longer let them talk to the press.
In an email to White Lake-Highland Patch, Milford Principal Kevin McKenna said the suspensions given to several Milford High School student likely will not affect their college plans. "Students are suspended everyday (in the district) for a variety of reasons," McKenna said. "It doesn't show up on their 'academic' record but a discipline record is created. If a college requests the discipline record, it's supplied, but the majority of universities and colleges do not initially request the discipline record." McKenna also confirmed the students involved in the video were given either 3-day or 5-day out of school suspensions depending on which video they were involved in. The community is still buzzing about the Milford High School students who were suspended after they filmed a "Harlem Shake" video in the school and posted it to YouTube. Today Fox 2 News is reporting that some people think the school has a double standard. A second YouTube video filmed at Milford High School, which you can watch to the right, shows four male students wearing only boxers dancing at the school's Mr. Milford pageant. Some people told Fox News that the school is sending mixed messages about what is appropriate on school grounds. Several Milford High School students are suspended after shooting videos and posting them to YouTube.
A group of Milford High School students have been suspended for making their own version of the "Harlem Shake" video and posting it to YouTube. While the Oakland Press reports at least 30 students were suspended for five days, Patch could not confirm the information. Kim Root, Huron Valley Schools director of communications and community relations, confirmed that students were suspended but could not be specific on the number of students nor the specific types of discipline that were received. According to Root, there were actually two videos that were shot at the school and posted to YouTube, but one of the videos has been removed. The following was written by Kate Phillips. When 16-year-old Alexis Stefanick of White Lake asked her dad to audition with her for a local staging of Cheaper by the Dozen, he hesitated. He hadn't been in a play since his own school days. But he decided to go for it, because he wanted to spend time with his daughter before she finishes high school and leaves home. "There may not be many more chances left," explained Bob Stefanick of White Lake. As it turns out, that's the guiding force behind the actions of the father that Stefanick plays -- Frank Gilbreth, an overly strict dad of 12 living in 1924. The lady Mavericks finish 19th in MHSAA state finals.
The Milford Girl’s cross country team finished strong at the State Championship on a sunny afternoon in Brooklyn. The lady Mavericks finished 19th in a very competitive field of 27 teams on Saturday. In a large field of 228 runners, junior Rachel Barrett led the way with a time of 19:15 on the challenging course at the Michigan International Speedway finishing in 93rd place. Barrett did a great job on the 3.1 mile course which included hilly terrain. Alyssa Byndas (19:25) was 107th followed closely by junior Lina Erlingis (19:25) who was 109th. Teammates Eve Hemingway (19:31), Madison Paquette (19:32.1) and Gabrielle Byndas (19:32.5) finished 117th, 118th and 119th respectively in a field filled with veterans who have competed before at …
