Milford Boys Win Second Consecutive Cross Country State Championship

This is the fourth championship for Milford boys cross country in 10 years.

The Milford boys cross country team won the state championship Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, MI. The Mavericks won the championship for the second year in a row with 83 points. Junior Brian Kettle scorched the course with a time of 15:07.3 to finish first in the field of 251 runners. “Being here last year was a great learning experience which gave me a game plan this year,” said Kettle.   A beaming Coach, Brian Salyers, said, “There is no exact formula. The back end of our team (runners 3-7) is a big key to our success. Our seven guys ran their lifetime best this afternoon.”  Salyers said he was very pleased with the team score of 83 points to finish ahead of Waterford Mott’s 167 and Rockford’s 186. Milford Theatre Company Presents Bye Bye Birdie

The first show is Nov. 16 at Milford High School. Tickets are $10 for adults.

The Milford High School Theatre Company is proud to present this year’s fall musical, BYE BYE BIRDIE. Step back into the 1950s when poodle skirts and soda fountains reigned supreme! Sweet Apple, Ohio, gets turned upside down when the rock ’n roll star Conrad Birdie arrives for his farewell performance before his induction into the army. Conrad is giving "one last kiss" to a lucky teenage girl live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Bye Bye Birdie is upbeat and full of good old-fashioned fun with classic songs such as "A Lot of Livin’ to Do," "Put on a Happy Face" and "The Telephone Hour." Keepsake Art and Craft Show Returns to Milford High School

For the second year in the row, the Keepsake Art and Craft show will be at Milford High School in Highland on Nov. 3.

The Keepsake Collections Art & Craft Show is back for a second year at Milford High School! The show will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission to the show is only $2, with kids 12 and under being free! Keepsake Collections is the area leader when it comes to Art and Craft shows. From Clarkston to Frankenmuth, let their experience help you enjoy a great event. They work to bring a diversified group of vendors from jewelers to different arts and crafts vendors. All the products that are sold are home made. Lakeland, Milford Host College Night Wednesday

White Lake and Highland parents are invited to participate in college night tonight at Milford High School. The event will give parents and students a chance to learn more about college admissions, costs and financing.

The following was written by Kim Root, communications director with Huron Valley Schools. The Career Centers of Milford and Lakeland High Schools invite high school students and their parents to College Night on Wednesday, Oct. 24. This free event is open to the public and will be hosted at Milford High School, 2380 South Milford Road, Highland from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. in the old gym. It offers families a chance to learn about college admissions requirements, costs, financing options, and scholarship opportunities. Lakeland's DECA Executive Team to Speak to School Board

The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education is set to meet Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at Milford High School.

Lakeland's DECA executive team is expected to speak at Monday's school board meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Milford High School. DECA, according to the district, is a program that aims to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Monday, students from Lakeland's team will share with the board what DECA is, how they compete, what they've learned as part of the DECA program, and what the program's goals are for the 2012-2013 school year. Milford Tops Cross Town Rival Lakeland 35-32

Milford's win all but dashes Lakeland's hopes for making the playoffs

The Milford Mavericks topped cross town rival Lakeland 35-32 in a steady rain Friday night. The Mavericks scored first on a 5-yard run by quarterback Alex Larson capping an 80-yard drive. Milford’s defense held the Eagles on their opening drive and took over at their own 20 yard line after an Eagle punt. The Mavericks scored quickly as Larson hooked up with Jonathon Schwartz on a 75-yard touchdown pass as the visitors took a 14-0 lead.  The Mavericks took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter as the rain continued. Lakeland got the offense going as quarterback Ross Heiman scored from 7-yards out to cut the lead to 14-6.  Milford came right back on a dazzling 50-yard scamper by Robert Ritchie giving the Mavericks a first down at the Lakeland …

Lakeland's 10th Annual Tastefest Friday

Enjoy foods from local restaurants and a rivalry football game Friday night at Lakeland High School in White Lake.

The 10th Annual Lakeland High School Tastefest will kick off Friday, Oct. 19, at Lakeland High School before the Lakeland vs. Milford rivalry football game. Starting at 5 p.m., attendees will be able to purchase 10 food tickets for $5 at the Lakeland cafeteria. The event will run through halftime of the varsity football game. The event is one of the largest fundraising events for the Lakeland athletic program. Participating restaurants include: Also at the game, Szott Dodge will be hosting a test drive event from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For every test drive, Szott Dodge will donate $20 to Lakeland athletics. Milford High School Art Students Honored by Huron Valley Hospital

Artwork from two students was selected for display at Huron Valley Hospital.

On Oct. 3, Milford High School art student Justen Hamilton, a 2012 graduate, and Lindsay Livermore, a senior, were honored for their digital photography at a reception by Huron Valley Sinai Hospital. Hamilton and Livermore were students in the Milford High School digital photography class, which was a new course added last year. Their families attended as did their art teacher, Tara Johnson. Last year Milford High School had two students' work selected for this honor from the 2010-11 school year, Caitlin Viazanko and Catrina Malysz. The Huron Valley Sinai Hospital selects only five art selections every year from all of the school art shows in both Walled Lake Consolidated Schools and in Huron Valley.
