Eagles Corral Mavericks 5-3 To Win First Round of Barber's Cup
The two rivalry teams play twice a year for the local trophy.
The Lakeland hockey team corralled the Milford Mavericks 5-3 Friday night to win game 1 of “The Barber's Cup.” The rivalry game between the two Huron Valley high schools was a thriller from the outset. Trent Lloyd scored at the 9:18 mark of the 1st period giving the Eagles the early 1-0. Less than a minute later, Milford's William Martin scored for the Mavericks to tie the game at 1-1. With the scored tied heading into the second period, the Eagles and Mavericks went end to end. Both squads were very physical in a tight checking period. Senior Trevor Tierney scored with 6:13 left giving the Mavericks a 2-1 lead. Lakeland captain Kyle Jakubowski scored on the power play for the Eagles to knot the score at 2 apiece.
