Howell Man Dies of Heart Attack While Driving in Highland Township

Police are looking into the resulting car accident Saturday morning on Hickory Ridge Road.

Officers at the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Township Substation are investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a 52-year-old Howell man. According to a police report, the man was driving a 1997 Nissan Sentra northbound on Hickory Ridge Road south of Clyde Road around 10:45 a.m. Saturday when he suffered what appears to be a heart attack. The vehicle he was driving veered off the road and came to a stop against a soft embankment. A person driving by discovered the car and started performing CPR on the man. Deputies and paramedics arrived and continued CPR. The man was transported to Huron Valley Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later. Teens Arrested for Larcenies in Highland, White Lake

An 18-year-old from Highland and an 18-year-old from Milford were arrested Wednesday for their roles in 11 larcenies from autos in the White Lake-Highland area. Detective Jim Bowie with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation said the pair were arrested in the parking lot of a local pawn shop following an investigation into a series of car break-ins in the area. The larcenies are connected to the ones reported in White Lake March 4 and March 6. Bowie said deputies received a tip from a local business employee who called deputies after two men came to the business and threw out a stack of CD's and a woman's purse. Lottery Tickets Taken From 2 Highland Businesses

The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation responded to an alarm just after midnight, Feb. 24, at a local party store. According to the report, when police arrived the clerk at the store on the 1000 block of Milford Road told police a person entered the store and grabbed a number of lottery tickets. The suspect then ran from the store. A K-9 unit was called in to track the suspect, and tracked the persons trail for 45 minutes before losing the track, the report states. Evidence was collected at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation. A breaking and entering was reported later that same day at 3:45 a.m. at another store on Duck Lake Road in Highland. The report states that a paper delivery person …

Three Thefts from Vehicles Reported in Highland

The following information was supplied by the Highland Oakland County Sheriff Substation. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on the 4000 block of Mallard's Landing in Highland after the homeowner noticed items missing from his cars. According to the report, the incident happened sometime between Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. The man told deputies, the report states, that several items were taken from two unlocked cars parked in the driveway of his home. In total, $840 worth of electronics, including an amplifier and sub-woofers, and sunglasses were reported missing. There are no suspects at this time. The incident remains under investigation. Sheriff's K-9 Dog Shot, Killed After Attacking Handler at Vet's Office

The 5-year-old German Shepherd named Gunner had been exhibiting aggressive behavior, sheriff's office said.

An Oakland County Sheriff's officer was forced to shoot and kill his K-9 dog Thursday when the dog, who was being treated for aggression, attacked him during an appointment with a veterinarian. In a statement, Sheriff Michael Bouchard called the dog's death an "extremely sad situation on every front." "These dogs are more than a police asset, they are beloved members of the department and the handler’s family," Bouchard stated. The 5-year-old purebred German Shepherd named Gunner had been a member of the department since 2007. Gunner's handler, a 23-year veteran of the department, took the dog to the veterinarian to see about treating his aggressive behavior, which had just begun.
