Winter Storm Causes 91 Accidents in Oakland County

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office, including the substation in Highland, reported several vehicle accidents Tuesday and Wednesday.

More than four inches of wet, heavy snow fell on the White Lake-Highland area Tuesday night, and resulted in several accidents along roadways throughout the area and Oakland County. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said their department, which covers 22 communities including Highland, responded to a total of 91 accidents. The accidents all occurred between 3 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday. The sheriff's office said there were a total of: The weather service forecasts a 60 percent chance of snow Thursday, with accumulations of less than a half-inch. Friday there's a chance of flurries and a high of 27 degrees.

More than $10,000 in Radio Controlled Cars and Parts Taken from Highland Car

Deputies are looking for any information on the theft of the items from a Highland vehicle Dec. 16.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation were called to a home on the 500 block of Dunleavy in Highland Dec. 16 after someone broke into a car and took more than $10,000 worth of items. According to the report, sometime between midnight and 10 a.m. an unknown person smashed out the back window of a 2013 Chrysler Town and County van parked in the driveway of the Highland Township home. The owner told deputies, the report states, the he and his sons are competitive RC (radio controlled) car enthusiasts and that the van was full of cars, car parts and tools. Suspected Drunken Driver Causes Serious Accident in Highland, Shuts Down Roadway

A 25-year-old Milford man was arrested Sunday at 2 p.m. following a serious car accident on Milford Road in Highland. According to the report filed with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation, the man was involved in an accident in the Village of Milford near Hector and Jimmy's, but fled the scene down Milford Road towards Highland where a second accident occurred. The report states that several witnesses saw the man's truck, a 2004 Ford F-150, speeding up to 80 mph, down the stretch between Milford and Highland, and passing cars in no passing zones. Highland Parent Cited for Hosting Party

Highland Deputies say a Highland parent hosted a Halloween party where underage drinking was taking place.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Offices were called to a home on Orban in Highland for a medical run, and ended up citing a man for hosting a party where underage drinking took place. When deputies arrived, they spoke to an 18-year-old who lived at the home. According to the report, she told police that her friend, also 18, had been drinking tequila most of the night and got sick. They found the teen in the bathroom of the home, passed out. The teen was transported to the hospital for treatment. The deputies noted the other 18-year-old smelled heavily of intoxicants and gave her a preliminary breath test. She registered a .145 blood alcohol level - .08 is the legal limit. 'Suspicious' Fire in Highland Greens Under Investigation

A vehicle fire at Highland Greens Mobile Home Park is being called suspicious by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office was called Oct. 22 to a home on North Shetland Court in Highland after the homeowners reported a fire. When deputies arrived, they found a man in the driveway of the home attempting to put out a car that had caught fire. According to the report, the car and surrounding area smelled heavily like gasoline. The owner of the car spoke to the deputies and, the report states, told them she had been having some problems with one of her family members. The woman told deputies that she had been arguing with a family member earlier in the day. When she returned home that night, the report states, she said she heard a loud whooshing noise and saw the car on fire in the driveway. She said she had just purchased the …

Man Arrested Following Highland Hit-and-Run

A 24-year-old Detroit man was arrested Oct. 20 after deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said he rear-ended a car at the intersection of Duck Lake and M-59 and then left the scene. According to the report, immediately following the accident, the man got out of the car to exchange information with the woman who's car he hit. However, when the woman said she was calling police, the man grabbed his information out of her hand, got back into his car and left driving west on M-59, the report states. A deputy at M-59 and Milford Road saw the vehicle at a pump at the Mobil gas station. The deputy approached the vehicle and spoke with the man. Several Cars Have Windows Shattered, Items Taken in Highland

At least 10 cars on Foxgrove and Elkridge in Highland Township were broken into sometime between Oct. 4 and Oct. 5. according to reports filed with the Oakland County Sheriff's Highland Substation. The reports all state that sometime during the night, an unknown person or persons broke out a window of a locked vehicle and took items from inside the car. Items taken from the cars include purses, wallets, cellphones, laptops, GPS systems, cash and other electronics. The incidents are similar to a rash of break-ins from White Lake, though deputies with the substation said they don't know if the incidents from both communities are related. Three Thefts from Vehicles Reported in Highland

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on the 4000 block of Mallard's Landing in Highland after the homeowner noticed items missing from his cars. According to the report, the incident happened sometime between Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. The man told deputies, the report states, that several items were taken from two unlocked cars parked in the driveway of his home. In total, $840 worth of electronics, including an amplifier and sub-woofers, and sunglasses were reported missing. There are no suspects at this time. The incident remains under investigation. 24 Tires and Rims Taken from Trucks at Highland Dealership

The following information was supplied by the Highland Oakland County Sheriff Substation. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A total of 24 rims and tires were taken off six brand new Dodge Ram 1500 Trucks parked in a lot at Szott M-59 Dodge in Highland. The incident occurred sometime between Sept. 13 and Sept. 15, according to the report filed with the Highland Substation. The report states deputies were called to the scene when an employee at the dealership noticed the six trucks sitting on cement blocks. There are trails behind the dealership, the report states, and they lead to Duck Lake Road. Police are currently reviewing security surveillance. The incident remains under investigation. Police: Kids Pranking Local Business in Highland

Employees with Wee Friends Child Care in Highland reported two break-ins over the span of three days. According to a report filed with the Oakland County Sheriff's substation in Highland, someone entered the building sometime between Aug. 24 and Aug. 25; and between Aug. 25 and Aug. 26. The report states the person or persons wrote profanities on the parent sign-in sheet and tied strings to items inside the building. Then, they wrote profanities in the dust on cars parked outside the business. A teacher with the child care center told police each time it's happened, she and the other employees found the main entrance unlocked.
