White Lake Toddler Found Walking Alone Along M-59

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

White Lake Police were called to the area of M-59 near JCPenney June 19 after receiving several calls from drivers about a small child walking along the road. One motorist stopped and waited with the child until police arrived. When police arrived on the scene, Lt. Don Nankervis said officers took the child to a nearby apartment complex and asked to see if anyone recognized the child, but no one did. The child, a 3-year-old, was taken back to the station where he stayed with officers. A little while later, police received a call about a missing child. Man Involved in White Lake Death Sentenced to Prison

Kenneth Ray Wright has been found guilty of delivering a controlled substance causing death and was sentence Feb. 9 to 33-99 years in prison. Wright, according to White Lake Police, sold the heroin that was given to a 62-year-old White Lake resident who subsequently died from an overdose. According to Lt. Don Nankervis, the White Lake man and another man who lived in Cedarbrook went to a Waterford motel on Feb. 23, 2010 to meet with a prostitute. The report states the two men and the woman discussed what drugs they would purchase, then went to an unspecified location in Pontiac to purchase heroin and crack-cocaine. When they returned to the motel, a second prostitute met up with the group and they went to their room with the drugs. The …

Police Need Help Identifying Man Suspected in Several Thefts

White Lake Police are looking for help identifying a man suspected of several thefts in Rochester Hills and White Lake. Lt. Don Nankervis said the man is a suspect in the theft of a purse from a local church in White Lake. On Jan. 16, between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. someone broke the passenger side window of a vehicle parked in a church parking lot in White Lake and took the purse in the front seat. Nankervis said the victim's credit cards were used at various stores in the area and in Rochester Hills. Surveillance video from the stores show a man, in his late 40's or early 50's, using the cards. The man, according to Nankervis, is also wanted in Rochester Hills where police, using surveillance, have identified him as the suspect in several…

Items Taken from Unlocked Cars Near Coledale and Ranveen

At least two cars were broken into near the area of Coledale and Ranveen, according to White Lake Police. Chief Edward Harris said a vehicle on the 400 block of Coledale was broken into sometime between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Sunday. Harris said the items taken included a laptop computer and a phone charger. A vehicle on the 700 block of Ranveen was broken into during the same time frame, Harris said. Items taken from that vehicle included headphones, an adapter and other electronic items. Both vehicles were unlocked, according to the report. There are no suspects at this time, and the incidents remain under investigation. A 17-year-old Lakeland High School student was caught at school with a flask of whiskey, according to Harris. …

Falling Tree Causes Tragic Accident in White Lake

Witnesses tell police falling tree was unavoidable.

Kerry Benjamin Schultz, 23, of West Bloomfield died Sunday after a falling tree hit his SUV causing him to lose control of the vehicle and go off the road. The accident occurred at Pontiac Lake Road near Margie in White Lake Saturday at 3 p.m. White Lake Police Chief Edward Harris said Schultz was traveling westbound down Pontiac Lake Road when a tree fell across the roadway and struck the roof of the SUV Schultz was driving. "He lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road into a ravine," Harris said. Police and fire responded and had to extricate Schultz from the vehicle. Several Minor Accidents Reported Thursday

White Lake Police Chief Edward Harris said icy roads and snow were to blame for several minor car accidents Thursday. "I can't recall any injuries being reported, but the roads were slick and we had a number of fender-benders," Harris said. "It's important to take it easy when driving in icy conditions, and to keep a good distance between you and the car in front of you." A home on the 9000 block of Portage Trail was broken into sometime between Wednesday night and Friday morning, Harris said. According to the report, a laptop computer was taken from the home. Woman's Cause of Death Determined; Vandals Strike Over the Weekend

Here's a roundup of recent incidents handled by White Lake Township police.

White Lake Township police have ruled that the death of a 49-year-old White Lake resident was likely of natural causes. The woman was found dead in her bathtub on June 30 by her boyfriend, according to Chief Edward Harris. "We got the autopsy results back and there was nothing unusual, no water in lungs or anything," Harris said. While the department is still waiting for the results of a toxicology screening, Harris said the woman had well-documented medical issues that likely caused her death. The driver involved in a serious motorcycle accident at M-59 and Fisk Road in June will be issued a citation. Harris said the man will likely be cited for reckless driving, or failure to stop. Woman Found Dead; Cause of Death Under Investigation

A 49-year-old White Lake Township woman was found dead in her bathtub on the 8300 block of Pontiac Lake Road on Thursday. White Lake Police were called to the scene by the woman's boyfriend, who told police he found her, Chief Edward Harris said. An autopsy has been performed, but officials are waiting for toxicology reports before making any determinations on cause of death. Harris said officials don't suspect foul play, but want to rule it out. Police are looking for the public's help in locating a missing laptop. Harris said the laptop was reported missing at 3:30 p.m. Monday after the owner, an AT&T worker, set the computer on top of his vehicle and drove off on Springdale. "He went back to try and locate the computer but did not know …

Police Blotter: White Lake Teen Hit By Car While on Bike

A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being struck by a car on Monday night. White Lake Township Police Chief Edward Harris said the girl was traveling northbound on Ormond Road near Duffield at 8 p.m. on her bike when a small car struck either her or the bike. The car's mirror broke off and the car continued to travel northbound down Ormond. Harris said the car did not stop after hitting the girl. "We were told she suffered some injuries to her legs, and likely has a broken wrist," Harris said. The police have the car's mirror, and are asking anyone with information to call the police department at 248-698-4400. The incident remains under investigation. Police Blotter: Storm Damage, Destruction of Property and More

A water pump station on the 6000 block of Grass Lake was damaged at 1 a.m. Thursday when severe storms passed through the area. White Lake Police Lt. Adam Kline said lightning struck the building and damaged the roof and shingles. The township estimates the damage at approximately $2,000. Police were called to a home on the 10000 block of Highland Road on Thursday after the owner of a car discovered gold paint had been dumped on his 1997 Corvette. Kline said the incident occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday. There are no suspects at this time; the incident remains under investigation.
