Through television commercials and in-store promotions, Kroger is bringing Michigan Made products to the forefront of its shelves in response to consumer demand for local products.
Visit the dairy case at any Kroger store in the state and you’ll see the first feature of the company’s partnership with Pure Michigan to promote locally raised and made foods. Kroger brand milk is the star of the newest Pure Michigan television commercial and the first consumer packaged good to be featured in the state’s iconic advertising campaign. As Kroger customer communications representative, Dave Hollandsworth, explains, there are three components to the new campaign: promote local brands through Pure Michigan, work with Michigan State University’s Product Center to bring smaller brands to Kroger shelves and clearly identify those products that are “Michigan Made" throughout the store. “In some cases, I have felt almost a militant…

More details have been revealed about the new Michigan State Fair at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi this Labor Day weekend.
Plans for Great Lakes State Fair coming to Novi this summer are moving forward with steam. Blair Bowman, owner of Suburban Collection Showplace, has been working with the Great Lakes Agricultural Fair board, a 501(c)3 organization, to bring the Michigan State Fair back this summer at his venue. They featured their products at the Great Lakes Showcase at the Southfield Westin Hotel on Monday. “If Michigan people buy Michigan stuff, the economy will improve for everyone. It’s really simple and basic—but true,” said Rejeana Heinrich of Standish, MI, a self-proclaimed sisterprenuer, who in conjunction with her two sisters launched Michigan-Made.com, a website dedicated to selling only Michigan-made products. The Buy Michigan campaign, which is supported by Gov. Rick Snyder, has paid off for Michigan-Made.com, which has seen a 400 percent sales growth in the past year. In …

According to a story on Mlive.com, the Wisconsin Department of Tourism is using the image of a slightly misshapen mitten to look like the state of Wisconsin on its winter travel site. This has prompted some good-natured jousting between the folks in Wisconsin who think their state is shaped like a mitten, and Michiganians who know there can only be one mitten state. According to the Mlive story: "Dave Lorenz, manager of public and industry relations for the state of Michigan, said the two state tourism agencies are friendly. “We understand their mitten envy,” he said with a chuckle, “but there is only one mitten state, only one Great …

I believe Michigan is on the come back. Our business has been growing over 75% each year since we moved to Rochester Hills. Back to the original question, I still love Vernors Ginger Ale even if they did leave Michigan. Riddley's on Rochester and Wattles is one of my favorite local businesses.   more ›
