Quake on the Lake, the annual inboard hydroplane races which will churn up the waters again this year on Pontiac Lake in Waterford/White Lake Townships July 20-22, will take on a distinctively Michigan flavor, literally and figuratively. This article was submitted to White Lake Patch for publication by Bob Dustman with Quake on the Lake. The Rainbow Connection, a 501(c) charity founded by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson in 1985 that grants wishes to children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses, has selected 12 year Terryon (TJ), who lives in Pontiac, to be this year’s Wish Child for the 13th Annual Quake on the Lake inboard hydroplane races on Pontiac Lake in White Lake/Waterford Townships July 20-22. TJ is a sixth grader whose passions range from math class to sports, especially basketball, football and baseball. He also is a devotee of video games and orange, just in case you were wondering is his favorite color. TJ, who was diagnosed in February …

Looking for something to do in the White Lake - Highland area this summer? We've got you covered! Did we miss something? Post your event in the comments and/or add them to our events calendar. Movies in the Park is held from 7 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. on the following dates (movie starts at dusk) at Judy Hawley Park behind the White Lake Library. A picnic will start at 7 p.m. with activites for kids including bounce houses. If your child wants to play in the bounce house they MUST wear socks. Blankets and bug spray are recommended. No BBQ grills. Parking is available behind township hall and limited overflow parking is available in the eastern lot of the Kohl's Department Store off of Porter Road. This event is free. Long-time hydroplane racer will bring his boat, talk about the evolution of the sport and safety issues in a free seminar open to the public.
Growing up on the east side of Detroit, during the summer months, “Racer” Bob Dabrowski could hear the sounds of the Rolls Royce and Allison aircraft engines that powered some of the hydroplane fleets driven along the Detroit River. Tomorrow, Dabrowski will tell stories of his own hydroplane racing experience at the White Lake Library in a free seminar open to the public starting at 6:30 p.m. in the library's basement conference room. There Dabrowski will go into more detail about his experiences, the art of hydroplane racing, the importance of and strides made in safety techniques and what makes Quake on the Lake such a unique event.
