How Can We Make Every Day Earth Day? (Sponsored)

Very few events are celebrated around the globe, but Earth Day is. This year, it’s come and gone. But we’re here to ask: What can we do to show our love of the earth on that day, and every day? If your New Year's resolution is to live a greener lifestyle, check out these 16 tips to help you stick to your plan.

If you want to be kinder to the planet and save some money at the same time, here are 16 ways to go green in 2013. 1. Buy fresh, local food this summer at the White Lake Farmer Market or Long's Family Orchard. 2.Have your kids make their friends birthday cards and bring gifts in decorated paper bags or a cool reusable bag. Kids love getting a handmade card—as do adults. 3. Highland Residents Can Earn Rewards for Recycling

Rizzo Services, the new trash hauler in Highland, is offering a reward program for those in the township that recycle.

If you recycle in Highland, you could be earning coupons for discounts at local businesses as part of Rizzo Services' new Rizzo Rewards Program. To participate in the program go to http://www.rizzorewards.com/ and click Activate Account. Then, follow the instructions to complete the set up of your free account. Every time you participate in curbside recycling, sign into your online account and record your activity by clicking the "I Recycled Today" button. Karen Provo, with the assessing office in Highland, said residents need to be sure the containers they use for recycling are clearly labeled and say "recycling."
