In just one week of play, the 12U Michigan Outlaws softball team broke several league records and finished their tournament with 11 wins and just two losses.

The following was submitted to White Lake-Highland Patch by Colleen Menzel. Since it was reinstated in 2003, after a short hiatus, the Outlaws has helped to train and teach girls not only the fundamentals of the sport but discipline.  And all of the players have fun.  The Outlaws practice throughout the year, and the relationship with Lakeland head coach Joe Alsup allows them to use the high school facilities. Cold weather months can see various Outlaw teams using one of the two Lakeland gymnasiums where batting cages and fielding drills are set up.  The Outlaws also host tournaments throughout …

IN BRIEF: Eagles Shoot for 7th Straight District Title

Lakeland softball opens Saturday in Hartland; Eagles need two wins to advance.

There's a level of pressure that comes with playing varsity softball at Lakeland. But historically the Eagles have embraced that pressure. Lakeland will be the favorites to capture a seventh straight championship, an expectation that comes with appearing in the state quarterfinals for the last six years. The Eagles will face Hartland, a 7-1 pre-district winner over Fenton on Tuesday, Saturday afternoon at noon in Hartland. That might be the game that ultimately decides the district title. Holly and Milford will square off in the other semifinal. "We're fortunate to get a bye and only had to face one of those (Hartland or Fenton) teams because both are very good and well-coached," said Lakeland head coach Joe Alsup. "That's the thing about …
