What do White Lake Presbyterian Church, the NFL Super Bowl, and the Open Door mission in Detroit have in common? Why, "soup," of course! February 3 is football's Super Bowl Sunday and "Souper Bowl Sunday" at the White Lake Church. On that day, the church fellowship hall will be transformed by the tantalizing aromas of more than 25 Crock Pots filled with homemade soups and the festive atmosphere created by football decorations. The purpose of the event - in addition to providing mouth-watering soups -is to support the Open Door mission that cares for the poor and homeless in Detroit. "What better way to enjoy football's Super Sunday than by sharing good soup and company while we support the less fortunate in Detroit?" asks Gary Klunzinger, …
Where in White Lake or Highland do you plan to watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens for Super Bowl XLVII?
It's already being called the Harbowl: a Super Bowl clash between San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh. The Harbaughs are the first pair of brothers to work as head coaches in the NFL, and they'll square off for Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3. This year, Michigan has a few connections to the big game, many of them with the 49ers. San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh was a star quarterback at the University of Michigan in the 1980s. Another former Wolverine is Jonathan Goodwin, a center for the 49ers. Michigan State also has representatives in Garrett Celek, a tight end for the 49ers, and Trenton Robinson, a safety for the 49ers. In addition, San Francisco offensive tackle Joe Staley played football at …

Getting ready for the big game Sunday? Here are some recipes that are perfect for your football gathering.
Sunday, Feb. 3, millions will tune in to watch one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Super Bowl. Don't let your party guests starve, check out these easy to make Super Bowl recipes. This recipe is inspired by White Lake-Highland Patch Readers Paulette Gollan and Dan Houston. Gollan said, "I use a mini muffin pan, wonton wrappers, seasoned ground beef, shredded cheese and green onions. Bake for 10 minutes. YUM!" Top them off with some Global Warming Salsa, a local White Lake product, and Houston said you have yourself the perfect snack. I didn't have wonton wrappers or a mini muffin pan on hand, so I tweaked Gollan's recipe a bit and used some tortillas instead. I also used light or fat free ingredients to make these mini …

Need recipes for your Super Bowl party? Check out these dips and easy-to-make dishes.
Due to an unfortunate accident at a roller rink that resulted in a sprained ankle and crutches, this week's column is going to be a little different. I am, unfortunately, not as mobile on crutches as I had hoped I would be, so I haven't been able to cook for this week's column. However, I do have a delicious new recipe that's perfect for Sunday's big game. Birmingham Patch Editor Laura Houser, an Ohio native, was the first to introduce me to Skyline chili dip. It's a wonderful blend of beef and spices, including cinnamon, that when mixed with shredded cheddar cheese and cream cheese, creates a very addictive warm dip that's easy to make and easy to serve. The only caveat of this recipe is that you need a can of Skyline chili. This is sold …
