Huron Valley Schools Rejects Highland's Offer for Vacant Building

The township's offer to purchase the building for $1 was declined this week.

The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education declined an offer from Highland Township to buy the vacant Highland Middle School. But, Highland Supervisor Rick Hamill said that doesn't mean negotiations are over. Hamill said the offer to purchase the building was declined for three reason. The first is that the township was asking for too much property along with the building. The second was that the 60-day window the township requested was not something the school board agreed with. The third reason had to do with bonds the district has, Hamill said. "Just because it was declined doesn't mean there won't be ongoing discussions between the school board and the township about the future of Highland Middle School," Hamill said in an interview …

If they have legitimately had this building on the market for 2 years how is this issue about the bonds just coming up now? If there is money that was to be used specifically at Highland Middle school then why wasn't it used for that purpose, and keep that school open. Their reason for closing it was the cost to repair, but the bond would have covered that. Or were they hoping to get away putting…   more ›
