$65,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds Approved

Township program to help low-income families gets lion's share of federal funds.

The White Lake Township Board approved the allocation of federal community development block grant (CDBG) funds for 2013 at Tuesday's meeting. Community development block grants are part of a federal program run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program, according to HUD, provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. For 2013, $50,000 will be allocated to the township's minor home repair program that is designed to help low- to moderate-income households in White Lake Township complete more complicated home maintenance. In order to qualify for the program, you must be a resident of the township and meet income specifications. Supervisor Greg Baroni said …

White Lake Board Approves More Than $5,000 in Cemetery Maintenance

The White Lake Township Board approved the use of budgeted funds to clean up White Lake Cemetery, and re-gravel White Lake and Oxbow cemeteries.

White Lake Treasurer, and township sexton, Jay Brendel's bid to do gravel work at White Lake Cemetery and Oxbow Cemetery was approved at Tuesday night's regular board meeting. The bid was approved unanimously for about $5,000 at White Lake Cemetery, and about $3,800 for Oxbow Cemetery. Brendel abstained from the vote. "I've been the township sexton for more than 25 years at zero cost to the township residents," Brendel said. Trustee Carol Burkard, who has previously disagreed with Brendel's position as both sexton and township treasurer, said she supported the bid because it was Brendel's last meeting as treasurer and he's been sexton for a number of years. Other board members agreed, stating that Brendel's knowledge of the cemeteries and …

White Lake Capital Improvement Plan Accepted By Township Board

The annual White Lake plan includes several "wish list" projects, such as park updates and township hall renovations, that are not likely to happen for several years, according to township officials.

The White Lake Township Board of Trustees met Tuesday night to discuss several items, including the 2013-2018 Capital Improvement Plan. The plan, a mandate from the state, is a "wish list" of projects identified by departments in the township for future consideration. The board's acceptance of the plan does not mean the projects will be completed. "Because we have water and sewer systems, we are required to submit a Capital Improvement Plan each year," Community Development Director Sean O'Neil said. "These projects are ranked in order of importance and projected for the next six years. It's important to note that these are not necessarily projects we are seeking funding for, rather, projects we've identified as important to the community …

After 23 years in the same house the sev has come full circle. The house is worth what it was 23 years ago but the taxes have doubled. How can this happen? Now the township wants more tax increases because of declining revenue. I Ithink the township has ripped off the taxpayers long enough. They just keep on spending like a drunken sailior with no accountability.   more ›

It was repeatedly emphasized that the CIP had nothing to do with anything called a budget.   more ›
