White Lake residents have donated almost $20,000 to Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, according to an interactive database of campaign contributions from the Federal Election Commission. Highland residents have donated just over $9,000.
This election cycle, White Lake and Highland residents are giving larger contributions to Republican candidate Mitt Romney, but President Barack Obama is getting more contributions from both townships. According to Federal Election Commission records, White Lake residents have made four donations of $1,000 or more to both presidential campaigns. Of those, two were checks to Romney for $1,000 apiece. In Highland, residents have made two donations of $1,000. Both of those dontations were checks to Romney, for $2,500 apiece. In total, White Lake residents have contributed almost $20,000 to the candidates, and Highland residents have contributed just over $9,000. Residents within the Huron Valley School District will vote on two school board seats during the November general election.
The primaries are over, which means local, state and national candidates are working full steam-ahead for the November general election. We know who will be on the ballot for various state and regional elections, but many local races didn't make it onto the primary ballot. The deadline for school board candidates to file was 4 p.m. Tuesday, so who's in the running this fall? There are two seats up for grabs on the Huron Valley School Board of Education. Incumbent County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and incumbent County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard win the Republican nominations by a wide margin.
Here are the results for countywide seats in the Aug. 7 primary with 62 percent of the precincts reporting. Results are unofficial. Incumbent L. Brooks Patterson received 89.8 percent of the vote to defeat challenger E. Wadsworth Sherrod III, who received 9.96 percent of the vote, for the Republican nomination. In the November election, Patterson will face Democratic candidate Kevin Howley, who ran unopposed. Incumbent Jessica R. Cooper ran unopposed in the Democractic primary. Matt Sprader says incidents regarding personal protection orders and police reports against him didn't occur as claimed.
Prompted in part by some comments Patch readers have raised, White Lake-Highland Patch has obtained court and police records via the Freedom of Information Act regarding incidents involving Matt Sprader, a challenger in the race for township supervisor. Sprader, a businessman and newcomer to politics, is seeking office against fellow Republican, and incumbent, Greg Baroni and the two will face off during the Aug. 7 primary. The documents highlight a history of claims against Sprader that include the following: In both PPO cases, a judge granted the request ex parte, meaning it went into effect immediately, even though Sprader had yet to receive notice.
